Copying Security without Copying Files

By default, SureSync does not copy security on files which are not copied in the synchronization. In other words, SureSync will not copy security for a file which has not changed. This is the most efficient way to process security copying because often times security does not change on the files unless the file itself has been changed.
SureSync also provides the option to copy security to all files and all folders even if the files or folders have not changed. These options introduce a significant amount of overhead and will slow your synchronization job down. Due to this fact, it is recommended that these options only be used when absolutely necessary. For example, if you make a large amount of security changes to a file share being synchronized with SureSync then you might run the job once manually with these options on and then shut them back off. If you later choose to revise your permission settings on the existing files you could again run a rule requesting all permissions to be copied.

SureSync does not copy folders if they already exist on the destination. Due to this fact, the only way to copy security to those folders is to set the 'Copy folder security objects to existing folders' option on the 'Copy Security' tab of the Rule. Again, you should minimize the use of this option to ensure optimal performance.

Remember that security values are copied independently: file permissions, auditing, and ownership. Copy only those values that need to be copied, allowing others to retain their default values. For optimal performance, do not copy security objects which do not need to be copied.
