A move rule simulates the move function in Windows Explorer. SureSync will copy and add files to the destination paths. When a file is successfully transferred to the destination(s) the source copy of the file will be deleted. The end result of a successful Relation running a Move rule is an empty source directory with all of the files copied to the destination(s).
Please note:
Move is one of two one-way rule types which deletes files. The mirror rule is the other.
For a Move, if a file has changed on multiple roots, SureSync will automatically replace the destination file(s) with a copy of the source file. There will be no warning.
If a file copy wasn't successful, the source file will NOT be deleted.
Possible Scenarios
A Move could be used to transfer files from an old server that will be removed from the system to a new replacement server. Or perhaps you have files that you want to keep on a backup machine or removable media, but you want removed from the main server. You could use a Move to shift those files to their new location.
