The top text box contains the name of the Monitor. You can rename the Monitor by clicking in this box and typing a new name.
The security panel is used to define security settings that determine which user accounts are allowed to access the Relation. This allows you to share a database in a central network location and still have control over what users can access what synchronization jobs. For example, if you have a set of Relations which synchronize data used by your Information Technology department and another set of Relations which synchronize data for your Accounting department you could grant the manager of the Accounting department Read permission to run those Relations that relate to the Accounting department while preventing that manager access to any of the other Relations. This would allow the Accounting Manager to run the accounting Relations but would not allow access to any of the Relations for any other department.
The default permission which SureSync will assign to a newly created Relation is Full Control for the Administrators group of the domain the machine SureSync is installed on is a member of or the local Administrators group if the machine is standalone or a member of a workgroup. The Full Control permission is also assigned to the user who created the Relation.
User and Group Names
This box will list all users or groups which have security defined for the Relation. Clicking on a user or a group will display the security configured for that object.
Clicking the 'Add' button will allow you to specify users to add to the Security panel. If you want to remove a user simply click on the user to highlight it and then click the 'Remove' button. To change permissions, click on a user or group and then check the appropriate permissions in the 'Permissions' section of the panel.
Permissions
There are six permissions in SureSync which can be assigned to users for a Relation. These permissions are set by checking the box next to the correct permission in the Allow column.
You can also deny permissions by checking the box next to the correct permissions in the Deny column. A deny permission will always win over an allow permission. For example, if you have a user defined with a deny full control and that user is a member of a group which has allow full control, that one user will have deny full control.
Full Control: The full control permission allows a user to read the Schedule, modify the Relation, and delete the Relation. Full Control also allows the user to modify the permissions for the Relation.
Modify: The modify permission allows the user to make modifications to the Relation.
Read and Execute: The read and execute permission allows users to view the Relation and the Relation's settings. It also lets the user execute the Relation.
Read: The read permission allows the user to view the Relation and the Relation's settings.
Stop Job: The stop job permission allows the user to stop the Relation.
View Job Status: The view job status permission allows users to view job status for the Relation through SyncStatus.
Inherit Security from Parent
If you check this option then the Relation will inherit security settings from it's parent. This works much like Windows NTFS permissions with inheritance turned on. In SureSync you can specify permissions on the root folder which will be inherited down to all Relations, Schedules, and Real-Time Monitors created under that root folder. The default root folder in SureSync is called "Job Definitions". Others can be created and each contains its own set of Relation, Schedule, and Monitor folders. This inheritance of permissions is enabled by default. Inherited permissions makes it easier to manage security to a large number of jobs.
If you do not want security to be inherited then you should remove the check from this box.
