Monitor Properties - Logging

The top text box contains the name of the Monitor. You can rename the Monitor by clicking in this box and typing a new name.
The logging tab of a Monitor allows you to specify options pertaining to the SureSync job log logging, Windows Event Log logging, and tracing that will be generated by this Real-Time Monitor. By default, the Monitor will use the Logging options specified in Tools | Options on the Reporting tab.

Job logging level

This option determines the level of logging detail that should be recorded in the SureSync job log for this Monitor. There are 7 different levels of logging detail.
Reporting Level Description
1 - Application Failures Only Will only record application errors. No synchronization errors will be recorded unless the application goes down.
2 - Job Failures and Severe Errors Will only record application errors, or errors that cause a synchronization to fail or stop prematurely.
3 - Warnings, Job Failures and Severe Errors Will record all errors.
4 - All Exceptions, Warnings and Errors Will record all errors and informational items.
5 - Job Summary and All Errors Will record all errors and informational items and summary lines (duration, # of adds, # of deletes, etc.) for every Relation and Schedule run.
6 - All Details and Errors Will record all events and errors that occur when a synchronization job is run, including entries for every copy, removal, etc. that is performed, as well as summary lines.
7 - Trace, Details and Errors Will record all events and errors that occur when a synchronization job is run, including entries for every copy, removal, etc. that is performed, as well as summary lines and tech support trace lines. (Tech Support use)

Write file statistics in JobStatistics table

Checking the 'write file statistics in JobStatistics table option will cause SureSync to record detailed statistics on a file by file basis to a table in the SureSync database called JobStatistics. This table can then be queried to generate detailed reporting about file level statistics. Generally, this information is used for diagnostic purposes and can generate slightly higher overhead with the additional database I/O (in addition to the standard job logging which also is occurring).

Windows Event Log recording level

This option determines the level of logging detail that should be recorded in the Windows Event Log for this Monitor. There are 6 different levels of logging detail.
Reporting Level Description
0 - No logging to Event Log Will record all events and errors that occur when a synchronization job is run, including entries for every copy, removal, etc. that is performed, as well as summary lines and tech support trace lines. (Tech Support use)
1 - Application Failure Only Will record all events and errors that occur when a synchronization job is run, including entries for every copy, removal, etc. that is performed, as well as summary lines.
2 - Job Failures and Severe Errors Will record all errors and informational items and summary lines (duration, # of adds, # of deletes, etc.) for every Relation and Schedule run.
3 - Warnings, Job Failures, and Severe Errors Will record all errors and informational items.
4 - All Exceptions, Warnings and Errors Will record all errors.
5 - Job Summaries and All Errors Will only record application errors, or errors that cause a synchronization to fail or stop prematurely.

Diagnostics Tracing

The series of check boxes under 'Diagnostic Tracing' will cause detailed trace logs to be generated for troubleshooting purposes. These options should only be enabled when requested by Technical Support. Checking 'Trace Job' enables a SureSync jobs trace. Checking 'Trace S' enables a SPIAgent session trace. Checking 'Trace C' enables a SPIAgent control trace. Checking 'Trace K' enables a SPIAgent socket I/O trace. Checking 'Trace D' enables a trace of the SPIAgent File Filter Driver. Checking 'Generate Wrap Traces only' should be checked along with one of the other trace options to generate smaller wrap traces.
Enabling tracing introduces additional overhead to the synchronization process and has the potential to slow down performance. Again, please do not enable diagnostic tracing unless instructed to by technical support to gather information to resolve a problem.

Trace Output Folder (Blank for default location)

The 'Trace Output Folder' option allows you to specify a location on the machine to store the trace logs. This overrides the default location which is the directory where the program is located. This can be helpful when you're dealing with a hard drive lacking a lot of free hard drive space.

The trace files can get big when dealing with large synchronization jobs. This can lead to problems having adequate free space available on machines with small amounts of hard drive space on the drive SureSync is installed on. The default location for all traces is the folder where the program is executed. By default, this folder is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Software Pursuits\SureSync. If your C: has limited space you can enter in an alternate local path in the 'Trace Output Folder' field. For example you might use D:\Traces.
